|
The new shop is on the east side of Duke Street, the road leading south from the junction of High Street, Kings Street and Kings Road (Jackson's Corner) just past Oxfam Music and immediately before the bridge.
Entry Fee
We meet during Eclectic Games' Monday games evening, thanks to Becky, Daryl and the staff at the shop. They have an entry fee of £6.00, just pay in cash or card to the person on the till saying you are for the Go Club, but the first visit is for free.
Note the shop is open until 20:00 now and game playing starts from 18:00, but Go playing does not usually start until 18:30. If you arrive after 20:00 knock on the door to be let in.
The shop is sometimes closed during bad weather or staff illness, as well as some bank holidays (check their website for details).
Games Room
In the new shop we met in the one of the playing rooms which are down a flight of 17 twisting steps, so there is still no disabled access. There will be lots of other games going on in the playing room, such as Settlers, Warcraft, trading games, but we will usually be on our own in the rear right room.
Usually we have a couple of players of dan playing strength and also players who are working their way up the kyu grades. Complete beginners are of course welcome. It is best to arrive at or near the start, as we often get tired and leave around 21:00.
There will be a machine selling water (50p), cans (65p-100p), bottles (120p-135p), bag of sweets (125p) and chocolate (65p-75p) and a coffee machine when things are sorted out. You are not allowed to bring in fast food or drink alcohol.
Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Parking
Reading has very limited on-road town centre parking and what there is seems to be on meters, even in to the evening. There are two nearby multistoreys, in Queens Road and Mill Lane, which offer a cheaper evening rate, if you can't find anywhere else.
However we are less than ten minutes from the station and several bus routes stop nearby.
Shop
Naturally the shop stocks an extensive range of games, including traditional games such as Go.
