UK Tournament Result

This was an all-play-all tournament with handicap of grade difference minus one. Time limits were 30 minutes sudden death. Handicaps above 9 stones were mostly given in the form of komi at the rate of 13 points (that is twice the komi of 6½ that was used in the one even game) per extra grade difference, except in two cases, where more stones were used as well.

Note that the black the 26 handicap game by 3 points, and lost the 22 handicap game by around 10 points.

The tie break was to look at the games between the tied players. That led to two further ties to decide, which where again broken by looking at mutual games.

Held in the Foxcombe Lodge Hotel, Boars Hill, near Oxford. The event was divided into two sections. The strongest eight pairs played in a tournament for which World Amateur Pair Go and European Pair Go qualification points were allocated. The other pairs played in a handicap tournament.

This included an extra game in which 53 Hetty Boardman-Weston beat 43 Wilson Hau.

At Hitachi, Maidenhead

The draw was done using a pre-determined grid system. Unfortunately there were not 15 players but 14, so some games were played one-on-one. Otherwise all players played once singly and twice in a pair, each game being with different people. All games were played on handicap based on difference between single’s grade and mean of the pair’s grades (halves rounded stronger).
